Liborio Market opened its doors on February 6,1966 in Los Angeles with $1,400 of initial capital, which was the collective savings of Enrique J. Alejo, Jr., Enrique B. Alejo, Sr., Randy M. Alejo, Berta Alejo and Nancy Alejo. This first store was composed of 1,200 sq. ft. of operating space and $800.00 in beginning inventory.
During these early years, Liborio carved its initial niche catering principally to the Latin American families that had settled in the neighborhoods of Central Los Angeles.

By 1979, realizing the growing success of Liborio, Enrique J. Alejo, Jr. purchased the building which the store occupied and immediately set in motion plans for a complete remodeling. To serve its family of customers better, Liborio expanded to 10,500 sq. ft. and built a 6,000 sq. ft. warehouse to accommodate the increased demand.

On May 14, 1994, Enrique J. Alejo, Jr., focused his attention on future growth and opened a second Liborio Markets. The 14,000 sq. ft. store inspired a family of markets offering high quality service and authentic Hispanic food items.

Liborio Markets once again expanded its customer base on November 16, 1997, by taking over and completely remodeling a 35,000 sq. ft. supermarket in the city of Ontario. With the overwhelming reception from the Latino community, this third store served as a model for future Liborio Market sites.

The following year Liborio Markets procured a 75,000 sq. ft. lot on the corner of Pico and Alvarado from the Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles. After 10 years of searching for a supermarket to fulfill the needs of the community, the CRA selected Liborio Markets from a field of eight applicants. The store was built from the ground up with specifications geared towards the needs and desires of the densely Hispanic neighborhood. On December 20, 1998 the fourth Liborio Markets was opened.

On September 26, 2001 Liborio Markets number 5 came to life, starting operations on 3rd Street and Bonnie Brae just about one mile from the heart of the business district in Downtown Los Angeles.

This important property previously belonged to another food chain. When the location transitioned into Liborio #5 it became an instant success and has continued growing ever since. Set in an area densely populated by Hispanics, Liborio Markets came to satisfy a demand for quality foods in the traditional variety consumed by each community.

February 6, 2003 was a Landmark-Turning Point in the history of the Liborio Markets Corporation. On this date, Liborio Markets #6 started doing regular business in Las Vegas, Nevada at Plaza Las Americas.

It was the first Liborio supermarket operating outside the state of California…and the first one within the expansion plans of the corporation at the national level. A complete Latino concept within a state-of-the arts facility with over 20,000 food items for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Items not available but demanded for by the public, become “regulars” on the shelves in a short time.

This facility combines the most advanced technology in the business with the beautiful artistry of its modern design. The Hispanic community in Las Vegas has welcome Liborio #6 with its best way of recognition…Loyalty!

On July 20th 2006, we took our boldest expansion step by opening our first store in Colorado, in Commerce City. We launched our new “Rancho Liborio” concept with beautiful new departments and bold colors.

We opened our second Colorado location on December 19, 2006 in Aurora. The Colorado community has enthusiastically embraced our new stores. We will soon be opening new locations in Colorado Springs, Westminster, Thornton and several other locations throughout Colorado.
